On Sunday April 21st Elite Taekwon-Do hosted a Taekwon-Do tournament for over 80 students. The focus of the event was introducing students to the competitive aspects of Taekwon-Do.
Our Taekwon-Do Kubz(4-6 years old) competed in tag-sparring and obstacle course while their older counterparts entered patterns and sparring competition. Special guests at Bracken were the Holy Cross Taekwon-Do School from Tramore in Waterford under Mr Mark White. Medals were awarded for First, Second and Third in each division and all competitors recieved a Certificate of Participation.
Students that wish to develop their competitive prowess can now go on to enter some of our larger tournaments such as this weekends ITA Dublin Open, the ITA Irish Cup in Limerick, and the ITA Cork Open. Ultimately competitors can compete for selection to the Irish National Team for World and European Championships. This path requires dedication and training beyond normal class times and special tournament training classes will be available on Saturdays from September in Loughshinny for those students who wish to prepare specifically for competition. Interested parties should ask for details.
Open tournaments are also a great learning environment and recently some of our students have had great success at these. Pat White regularly hosts his Best of the best tournaments for those that can’t get enough of tournaments.
