Summer Camp A Great Success

Elite Taekwon-Do Academy’s Annual Summer Camp was held between July 7th and 10th and proved to be a great hit with the camp attendees. Over the course of the four days students worked on fun kicking drills, Self-Defence, Sparring Competitions, and Patterns Competitions.

In addition to the Taekwon-Do action, participants also played lots of games such as Dodge Ball, Noodle Wars, tag etc.
Donnacha and Clare Patterns Competition

One of the Camp highlights was our trip to beautiful Loughshinny Beach where Sam Cummins showed everyone the “Smugglers Cave” he had discovered.
Stdents enjoying Loughshinny Beach

As usual, everybody had a great time and at least one student, Ava Kearns was disappointed that the camp only ran for one week. Ah well Ava, theres always next year.
Hitting the beach

Many thanks to Matthew, Clare, and Barry for their help in leading the camp and also to Pipina, Sarah, and Keeva for the wonderful cakes they made for everyone.

Loughshinny ETA Students of the Year Awards.

ETA Loughshinny’s “Students of the Year” were awarded recently during our last class of the current season. Awards were presented to the students from each of our classes who have demonstrated commendable Attitude, Attendance, and Ability over the past year.

In our beginner to yellow belt class the award was presented to Robbie Swarbrigg, in our Junior Intermediate class our winner was Emilia Zivkovic, and in our senior class awards were presented jointly to Carly Pagett and Carl McGrath. All of these members helped set the benchmark for our other students for the future and their effort and commitment was greatly appreciated.

Our “Competitor of the Year” was Samy Lamari, who won many tournaments this year in both Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing, the highlight being his Gold Medal at the European Championships in Italy in April. Very well done Samy.

ITA Irish Cup Report

Excellent Tournament in Limerick over the past weekend, congratulations to all of our competitors, some great performances especially Ben Pagett who is starting to come into his own and Matthew McMenamin in his first tournament.

The standard overall was incredible and is evidence that the Irish teams success in recent times wont be a flash in the pan. Some of the talent coming through is mouthwatering.

Mention should be made too of the fantastic job of the ITA tournament organizing committee and all of the umpires who continue to make these tournaments possible.

Roll on Cork in February.
